Alice Allen

Alice Dumas Allen was born on March 28, 1937, in Thomaston, Alabama, to the late Anthony and Queenie Dumas. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church in Orrville, Alabama. She graduated from Keith High School in 1955. After relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, she married the love of her life, David Allen, on June 24, 1956. Their union was blessed with four children: David Jr., Bobby, Anthony, and Clettis. Alice later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she faithfully served the Lord through her church communities. She was a dedicated choir member at Shiloh Baptist Church on the west side of Chicago. Alongside her husband, she later joined West Point Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for 40 years in various ministries, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She concluded her years of service at New Progressive Baptist Church. Alice was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a compassionate caregiver who dedicated much of her life to supporting others. She found joy in gardening, cooking, singing, dressing jazzy, playing bingo, and watching her favorite daytime stories. Her family especially cherished her homemade ice cream and German chocolate cake. Throughout her life, Alice remained sharp, witty, and full of life. She was a creative spirit who loved sharing her knowledge, talents, and warmth with family and friends. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will be deeply missed and forever remembered. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, David Allen, Sr.; three sons: David Allen, Jr., Bobby Allen, Sr., both of Chicago, IL, and Clettis Allen of Glenview, IL; and eight siblings: Geneva Rice, Ruth Tolbert, Rosie Griffin, Tommy Dumas, A.J. Dumas, Johnny Dumas, Robert Dumas, and James Dumas. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son, Anthony Allen (Peggy) of Hammond, Indiana; daughters-in-law: Sandy Allen, and Phyllis McCraven-Allen; ten grandchildren: Anthony Allen, Jr., Anton Allen, Chris Allen ; Shavon (Ralph) Parker, Dionna Allen, Clettis Michael (Geena) Allen and their mother Debra House; Shynese Spencer, Ebony Allen, Bobby Allen, Jr., and LaKendrick Allen and his mother Lakeisha Moman ; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Maple Moppins, Queenie Dumas, Daisy (Ezekiel) Moore, and Susie Cole; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
