Annie Katherine Bloomingberg

Annie Katherine Bloomingberg graced this world with her presence on September 29, 1950, in Lexington, Mississippi to the proud parents of James & Ludie Bloomingberg. Annie, along with her family, relocated to Chicago, IL in 1955. She attended Shakespeare Elementary School & Tilden High School. God blessed her with two daughters, Ursula & Jessica, whom she loved dearly. Annie confessed & accepted Christ & was baptized at New Lily of the Valley M. B. Church, under the guidance of Rev. A. C. Mack. She later joined Centennial M. B. Church, under the guidance of the late Rev. Willie L. Hudson. She served in multiple ministries & was a faithful member of the Faith Choir. Annie leading “He’s That Kind of Friend”, by The Hawkins Family, was a crowd favorite. She continued her service in the Lord later by joining Greater Harvest Baptist Church, under the guidance of Bishop Eric Thomas, where she served until her health wouldn't allow her. She acknowledged the significance of serving God. To know Annie is to know she was a free spirit & fiercely independent. She was equal parts kindhearted & no nonsense, she said what she meant & meant what she said. Annie Katherine was a big fan of Aretha Franklin & Tina Turner. Shirley Caesar, The Hawkins Family & The Staples Singers records were played endlessly. She had a major crush on Kevin Costner & watched his movies over & over. Her favorite holiday was Christmas! She was known to fill the home to the brim with bright & cheerful Christmas decor. Infusing the air with love, warmth, smells of baked cookies & sounds of “Silent Night” by The Temptations. Her serving qualities shone brightly in her professional life as well. Annie was a dedicated employee at Chevy Chase Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she worked for 32 years. Known for her ability to lift the spirits of both residents and staff, she retired in 2021. Retirement allowed Annie more time to indulge her passions: crafting, singing, photography, & listening to Gospel music. She had a fondness for Western films & a special affinity for horses & elephants, the latter symbolizing strength, power, wisdom, longevity, and loyalty—qualities she embodied herself. She also remained active in her community, volunteering at the Chicago Culture Center & a local homeless encampment, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others. She received numerous awards & certificates in recognition of her diligent work, dedication, & faithfulness from church, work & volunteer services. Family was paramount to Annie. She cherished spending time with her daughters & bonding deeply with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. AnnieKat carried her cherished memories of her parents and siblings, Eddie Lee, Edna Mae, James William, Johnny Clayton & Robert Earl, in which she shared precious memories who have all preceded her in the journey of life. "Because the LORD is my shepherd I have everything I need, he lets me rest in the meadow's grass and he leads me beside the quiet streams, he has restored my failing health and helps me to do what honors him the most, That's why I'm safe in his arms......." Annie Katherine Bloomingberg received her heavenly wings on Saturday November 29, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Annie's memory will be cherished & lovingly remembered by her daughters Ursula (Derick) Bloomingberg-Wyckoff, Jessica Bloomingberg, four granchildren Dana (William), Justin, Sebastian & Baron; two great grandsons, A'Don & Yah'sun, two sisters Leonia (Johnny) Pope & Barbara Griffin & a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
