JC Thames, Jr.

JC Thames, Jr. was born on September 17, 1947, in Newton County, Mississippi to JC, Sr. and Annie Mae Thames. He was the oldest of five children. JC was affectionately known by his family as Junior. JC attended elementary and high school in Jackson, Mississippi. He moved to Chicago IL. and worked with his uncle at Royal Continental Box Company. He later attended trade school and became a certified automobile rebuilder. He retired after working 35 years in the business. JC met Dewain Georgette Roberson, whom he affectionately called Georgette. They got married on July 4, 1993. A father of 2 daughters when he married, he created shared and harmonious experiences for his family and daughters. JC accepted Christ and became a member of Friendly Temple COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop Edwin M. Walker. JC was gifted with skills to work with his hands. Not only was he a barber, he was a cook and gardener. He was also skilled in repairing and refurbishing homes. God set a unique path for JC. His mission was to give of himself to serve others. He cooked for churches, families and individuals, he provided transportation for people, and if something needed to be fixed in your house, he would come and fix it. He never complained, nor asked for anything in return for serving others. JC also had a profound impact on the boys in the neighborhood and in the church. He opened our house to them. He cooked for them and fed them. He put a basketball hoop in the yard, so the boys could come to our house to play and not be in the streets. He took them to sports events, and on vacations. He mentored them to help them become positive and respectable young men. JC loved his mission in life and carried it out faithfully. He kept a smile on his face and had a contagious laugh that caused others around him to laugh. He enjoyed looking at his sports games. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae and JC, his brothers, Bill, Jerry and David, his sister, Patricia, and daughter, Nicole Thames Armour. On January 27, 2026, at 7:27 am, God called JC home. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Dewain Georgette, his daughter Renee his son Aaron, and grandchildren, Lauren, Darrell and Aaron James, son-in-law Tommy Armour, sister-in-law Linda Cross, special friend Raymond Richmond, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, who loved him.
