LaShundra R. Burton-Smith

LaShundra Rachenette Burton-Smith was born May 4, 1983 in Chicago, Illinois to her parents Leonard and Jeanette Burton. Her beloved Mother, Jeanette precedes her in death. LaShundra confessed Christ at a young age under the leadership of Pastor Clemon L. Chappell Jr. at The SonRise Baptist Church, Lake Station, Indiana. LaShundra married Traveon Smith on June 22, 2018. One child was born from this union, Jada Smith. LaShundra’s beloved Princess precedes her in death. LaShundra, was affectionately known to her family as “Boo”, she received her nickname from her late Aunt, Irma Jean at birth. LaShundra was no stranger to adversity and was born a fighter weighing just one pound at birth. Her parents made sure she had everything she needed to be successful and independent. Her mother was so elated when she graduated from Steinmetz High School. It was her greatest joy! LaShundra went on to attend college where she obtained several professional certifications. LaShundra’s mother taught her how to be very independent and have a strong work ethic. LaShundra always made sure she had a place to stay and a place of employment, no excuses! She dedicated her last years to nurturing and supporting children as a Teacher’s Assistant at ONE Northside Housing Team. LaShundra loved her younger cousins and godchildren. A fond memory she had was her having sleepovers and traveling on the train taking them downtown Chicago and Navy Pier, with just her and them! LaShundra loved children so much she was always the first to volunteer for her church’s Vacation Bible School, which she did every year until she was no longer able to. After LaShundra’s mother passed away in 2006, she was taken in and cared for by her beloved Aunt Bobbye Patterson who was by her side no matter the circumstances. LaShundra Burton-Smith made her transition on July 18, 2026. She is preceded in death by her mother, daughter, grandparents, aunts and uncles. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband Traveon Smith, Chicago, IL, her father Lenoard Burton – Chicago, IL, her father in-law Walter Jackson, three brothers in-law: Curtis Smith (Veronica), Martasz Smith and Kenneth Lamb all of Chicago, IL, one uncle Henry Burton, Chicago, IL, two aunts: Bobbye Patterson, Chicago, IL and Jean Burton, Mississippi. LaShundra loved her little cousins and godchildren so much we list them all: CJ, Faith, Michael, Carmen, JJ and Trinity; godchildren: Taniya, Carlos Jr, Dominic, Dream and Madison. Her cousins who were more like siblings: Quanika, Stephanie, Kiera, Steve Jr, Brittany, Teannia, Shamara and Shakara, three special friends: Aimie, Monica and Theresa and a host of relatives and friends.
