Marguerite Suzanne Smith

Marguerite Suzanne Smith was born in Chicago on October 24, 1954, to Charles & Eulilia Smith. She was the 2nd oldest of 4 children. Her siblings were Charles, Dorothy & Edna Smith. For a great deal of her childhood, “Susie,” as the family called her, was raised by her grandmother, Willar Powell & her aunt Charlene Robinson. Susie was baptized at an early age & attended church, often, with her siblings, as her grandmother was very religious. From a young age, Susie was independent & self-motivated. She was a dedicated student & even considered joining the military. She was extremely close with her brother, Charles, & their father, “Big Charles” & was a “daddy’s girl.” In her own words, she would tell you that “she preferred to run with the boys.” Susie was never married but had great loves in her life, including Albert Sutton, with whom she gave birth to 1 child. They had a son named Albert Smith shorty after she graduated from Lindblom Technical High School. Later, she became legal guardian to Johnny, Jason & Justin Smith, the children of her sister, Dorothy. Susie took some business classes in college & explored a few different careers such as working with Aunt Charlene at National Dairy as a key punch operator, restaurant management with Dock’s Fish & even had her own moving business, S & M Movers, with her longtime love, Michael Lott. Her most enjoyed career was as a gate agent for American Eagle Airlines, now known as Envoy. She retired after 16 plus years of service with many travel experiences & colleagues turned friends who also cherish her memory. Susie’s interests were traveling, going out to eat at restaurants & attending music concerts. She loved music that ranged from Motown hits to pop & rock from the 70s & 80s. However, her all-time favorite group was The Backstreet Boys! One time, the family put together a pool to raise money, just to send Susie to their concert at the United Center. Marguerite Suzanne Smith leaves to mourn 2 grandchildren, Mallory King & Albert Smith Jr., great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews & 2 special children (Justice & Xavier Smith) that she played the role of grandma to although she was their great-aunt. In her final years, she was known as “Auntie-Grannie” Susie, around the house, to Sophia, Justin & the kids. Many family members preceded her in death, including her parents, siblings, her son Albert, Johnny, Jason & others, leaving her to be the last of her generation to receive her wings..
