Mildred Laverita Fisher

Mildred Laverita Fisher was born on January 6, 1961 in Blytheville, Arkansas to her parents, the late Mr. Luther Thomas and Cleo Fisher. She was the first born into this union. Affectionately known as Millie and Mama Millie, to know her was to love her. She was a loving, kind, sweet and gentle woman who wore her heart on her sleeve. If there was anything you needed, she would do her best to give it to you. Millie loved cooking, knitting and playing cards. She enjoyed playing cards such as spades and bid whist so much, that’s where she met and fell in love with the love of her life Willie Fields. From this relationship one child, Samantha Ja’cquie was born. Mildred accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of Elder R.C. Edwards of Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ. As she continued her spiritual journey, she joined Holy David Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Cotton. She was faithfully involved in the choir. In 1995 Millie joined St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor D.W. Williams. She was very enthusiastic about working with the children and directing the choir. Millie’s work for the Lord continued as she joined Dominion Kingdom Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Timothy Washington. She faithfully served in the choir, intercessory prayer and the children ministry. Millie loved to plan her favorite event Parent’s Day Off during the Christmas season. She was dedicated to serving the Lord. Even though Millie wasn’t approved by man into the ministry God approved her. In doing so, she witnessed Christ to numerous of people. She would proclaim the gospel of Jesus at dialysis, the doctor’s office, and even in the grocery store. Wherever God needed her to go she would go. Millie attended Harper High School and later attended Dawson Technical Institute where she earned her G.E.D. She continued to further her education at Kennedy King College. In September of 1989, Millie volunteered at Perkins Bass Elementary School in the cafeteria. She was known as the spoon lady. Years later, God blessed Millie to become the payroll clerk at Perkins Bass School. She encouraged the children to believe the sky is the limit when it comes to education. Millie introduced a uniform initiative with the students called HOTIU’s meaning Here On Time and In Uniform. She was very proud of her technique to encourage students to come to school and dress in their uniform. After working for Chicago Public School for 24 years, she retired in 2016 to enjoy family and doing what she loved to do, cooking especially her famous chicken salad. On February 17, 2026, surrounded by family, Millie was called home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her brother Byron Fisher Sr., her sister Pamela Fisher Howlin and her nephew Elbert Fisher. Her life and love will be cherished by her daughter Samantha (Justin), her grand pup: Sammy, her sisters: Paula and Shondra (King), her goddaughters: Krystal, Tiffany, Darshay and Ciera, her god grandchildren: Zaryah and Jade, her nieces and nephews: Christie, Monique, Byron Jr., Tony, Karri (Ryan), Christina, Krystal, Jonathan, Raven, Tequila, Lakia and a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.
