Dr. Pierce N. Vaughn

Dr. Pierce Vaughn was born to the union of William Henry Vaughn and Harriett Christine Vaughn, on June 24, 1936 in Douglasville, Georgia. Dr. Pierce Vaughn began at a very early age with Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Rome, Georgia. Dr. Vaughn had a strong belief and trust in the Lord and served admirably in numerous capacities in the church and dedicated his life as a follow servant. Dr. Vaughn’s subsequent memberships included the following in Chicago, Illinois Morningstar Baptist Church, Martin Temple Church, and New Zion Ministries. He served on many leadership boards. Dr. Vaughn was truly dedicated to his Pastor ( Jimmy Allen Thomas) and church family. Dr. Vaughn loved sports. He played football in high school. He was an avid golf player. He loved golf and played whenever the opportunity presented itself. Dr. Vaughns educational journey commenced in Rome, Georgia. He graduated from Main High School in Rome, Georgia in 1955. He attended Tennessee State University , Nashville, Tennessee; he studied building construction. He had a brief stay in Cleveland, Ohio where he worked in Construction. Dr. Vaughn moved to Chicago in 1957 and studied Architectural Drafting at Chicago Technical College for one year. He went on to graduate from Greer Technical College in 1958; auto body repair was his major. Dr. Vaughn was awarded a Bachelor Of Arts Degree from Governors State University, Park Forest,IL , December 22, 1978. He was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Education at Chicago State University, August 19, 1983. Dr. Vaughn earned a Doctorate Degree in Education from The University of Sarasota, Sarasota, Florida, May 25, 1992. Dr. Vaughn was drafted into the US Army for two years, during his residency in Chicago. He received a honorable discharge as a Specialist E-4. He was trained as a sharpshooter. Dr. Vaughn’s employment history would include autobody repairs with the Yellow Cab Company, Chicago. He also worked at Porche Auto Dealership in Chicago for period of time. Pierce would go on to operate his own auto repair business, Phillips Gas and Auto Repair shop, Chicago. During this same period, he worked as an appraiser for Allstate Insurance Company. Dr. Vaughn received his tenure with the Chicago Board of Education. He began an Auto Body Instructor, and Senior Counselor at Westinghouse Career Academy High School. He also served as an Assistant Principal at Garrett A. Morgan Elementary School. Dr. Vaughn service at Overton commenced in 1997. He retired in 2003 as Principal of Anthony Overton Elementary School, after twenty-nine years of dedicated service to the Chicago Public Schools. Dr. Pierce Nathaniel Vaughn received recognition from Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago for services rendered to the Chicago Public School System. A Resolution was also drafted and presented by the Board of Education at his retirement banquet. Dr. Vaughn’s educational endeavors and accomplishments inspired others. He became a Motivational Speaker, and spoke at numerous events. He spoke in various cities, San Diego, Rome, GA and the Chicago area. Dr. Vaughn is preceded in death by his father William Vaughn, mother, Harriett Vaughn, brother, Patrick Vaughn, two uncles, Lowell Vaughn and Ivory Vaughn, aunt Irene Carter nephews, Demetrius and Demedaco Tiller, mother-in-law, Eddie Lee Buckley. Dr. Vaughn leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife Jacqueline Buckley Vaughn affectionately known as Sweets , daughter Melanie Vaughn , Sheaneice Buckley whom he loved as his very own daughter, a bonus son , Robert Green, sisters, Mattie V. Bulter (Alanta, Georgia), Patricia A. Chavis (Columbus, Ohio) . He leaves one nephew Raushike, three cousins, Bulamae, Mildred, Janis, Sophe, and Lowell Jr. A host of relatives and friends.
