Celebrating HER Life RITA MARIE NELLUM-HILL There is a time and a season for everything. A time for happiness and a time for sadness A time for arrival and a time for departure Rita Marie Nellum-Hill was born to Robert Lee Jordan and William McMillion (Raised by Louella Wallace) on May 20, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. She attended DuSable High School and Grand Canyon Uni-versity. Rita was known for her unwavering commitment to education and her profound impact on countless students over 35 years. She began her career as a teacher at John Fiske Elementary School inspiring and nurturing young minds with her passion for learning and her empathic nature. Rita’s classroom was a place of encour- agement and growth, where she instilled not only knowledge but also values of kindness, perseverance, and respect. Beyond her professional life, Rita was a woman of extraordinary grace and kindness. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth and unconditional love. Rita dedicated her life to her family, cherishing each moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a haven of joy and laughter, filled with the aroma of her delicious cooking and the sound of her gentle voice. Rita was an active member of St. Sabina Faith Community Church. Being a woman of service, she spent all her life offering her time and wisdom to those in need. Her compassion extended beyond her family, reaching out to support friends and strangers alike. Rita Marie Nellum-Hill, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of our family, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, at the age of seventy. Rita is survived by her daughter Broshon Lesure, (son John Wesley Lesure whom preceded her by death), five stepchildren, grandchildren Darian Lesure, Kennethia Beckwith, Kenneesha Beckwith and Terri McLemore and three great grandchildren who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Rita was loved by her beloved husband, Michael Hill, with whom she shared 27 years of cherished marriage. Her lovely seventeen siblings (6 siblings who preceded her in death), and a host of nieces, nephews, and God children. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on through her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her. Rita’s strength and love have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of being part of her life. Rita will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with those who went before her, in the embrace of God’s love.
