Ronald A. Murrell

Ronald A. Murrell, affectionately known as "Ron" or "Ronnie" was born on March 21,1951 to Harry Murrell and Ernestine Welch (Nee Murrell), both of whom preceded him in death. He was the oldest of four children born to this union. When his mother remarried, he became the eldest of six. Three sisters, Damita, Renee, and Anissa, preceded him in death. Ron was blessed with three children whom he loved dearly, Spencer, Meaqo, and Marlo. He loved the Lord and was a member of Carter Temple A.M.E. in Chicago. He attended Oakenwald South Grammar school and afterwards attended Harlan High School where he graduated in 1969. Ron had various jobs throughout his working career and retired from North Shore Academy where he worked for over 20 years. He loved to travel and spent time living in places like New York and Jamaica before finally settling back down in Chicago. He was a sharp dresser and was very coordinated and organized in everything he did. He was a gadget buff and a Netflix fanatic. Ron was an avid music lover and was even served as a DJ, bartender, and manager at his father's lounge Harry O's which was located on the south side of Chicago. Ron had an infectious smile that lit up every room he entered and drew people to him. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was very generous and always ready to offer help in any way he could. He was the true definition of someone willing to give you the shirt off his back. Ron made his transition to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026, surrounded by family. Throughout his battle with Kidney cancer, among other illnesses, he never complained, he never gave up, he never gave in. All he wanted was to be home because he knew what we weren't ready to hear. He fought a long and great fight until the end making his family proud. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Spencer (Erice), and Marlo; one daughter, Meago; granddaughter, Jelen, and grandson, Jayson, via Spencer, Eleven grandchildren via Marlo, one of whom preceded him in death; two sisters, Lynda, and Cathy (Frank), two brother-in-laws, Kevin (Damita) and John (Renee), a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
