Dossie Evans

May 14, 1933 - November 28, 2021

Born on May 14, 1933, to Porter and Lillian Taylor in Louise, Mississippi. Dossie Mae Evans was the sixth child born to this union which included five brothers. She received Christ at the age of fourteen at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Dossie received her initial education in Louise but was inspired to continue it in Chicago, Illinois where she became an Information Referral Counselor & Community Specialist and proudly graduated as one of the first state of Illinois Certified Specialists. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, studying scripture, shopping, gardening, sewing and listening to gospel music. She touched the lives of many in her community and was often referred to as a second Mom by her children’s friends and members of her congregation. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Vernard Cook. She is survived, cherished and mourned by her husband Edward Evans, her children Edward, John, Cassandra, Marie, Verneser, Alvin, Lakithia and Taniesah, as well as 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends.
