Mary Tenth Walker

February 27, 1937 - May 31, 2022

Mary Tenth Walker was born February 27, 1937 to Mr. Joe and Devion Murry in Shuqualak, Mississippi. She was the tenth child of 15 children to this union. She received Christ at an early age while attending New Prospect Baptist Church in Shuqualak, Mississippi. Mary received her high school education and soon afterwards was employed as a nurse aid with Loretto Hospital. She retired in 1988. Mary was chosen one "of good report, full of Spirit and of wisdom" and set apart publicly to receive the Certificate of Ordination to the Office of Deaconess by New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in 2007. In addition to Deaconess ordination, she was an active Matron, choir member, Vacation Bible School teacher/sub-teacher and retreat sister. She will be remembered for her walk with Christ and for how selfless she was. Her innermost nature was that of serving and lifting people up. She had a sense of duty to love everyone, and her inherent caregiving qualities will be remembered and missed. She loved family and was held in high esteem as a matriarchal voice of wisdom. She liked to travel and eat - she was an excellent cook! Mary was called home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2022 at the age of 85. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Michael Murry; sisters France Thompson, Adell White, Earlean Cherry; brothers Howard Murry (Jean), Jimmy Murry; grandsons Michael Williams, D'Wayne Carter; granddaughters Brandi Murry, Brittainny Jones, Mya Murry, Sasha Murry, Kalani Murry; 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
