Geraldine Scurlock

Geraldine Scurlock, age 97 was received into God’s care on December 3, 2024. Geraldine was born on April 18, 1927 to William Neville and Alice Moore in Chicago. Geraldine gave her life to the Lord at an early age. Her early devotion to Christ, shaped her life and inspired those around her. As a young child, her parents moved from Chicago to Harlem, New York. In 1945, she graduated from Morris High School in Bronx, New York. In 1958, Geraldine left New York to accompany her mother to Chicago where she received medical care. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Elroy Scurlock. Geraldine loved working and inspiring others. She worked for the Board of Education as a Teacher’s Assistant and retired after 30 years of service. During this time, she encouraged and motivated both her co-workers and students to do their best in life and to trust in the Lord. Geraldine attended the Christ Universal Temple for many years. Her devotion for the Lord extended to her dedication to worship God at both the Allen Metropolitan C.M.E. Church and Damascus Baptist Church. Geraldine was cherished for her feisty personality and her positive words of wisdom. She approached life with gratitude, always focusing on the good things in her life. One of her favorite expressions is “God has been good to me”. She spoke her mind boldly and with humor and love. Geraldine loved solving Word Searches and going to the “Casino boat”. One of her favorite shows was Jeopardy. Geraldine made others feel special by lifting others up with genuine compliments. She also loved to wear vibrant colors and encouraged others to do the same. You will hear her saying to someone “wear bright colors”, you will look better. Geraldine also loved to wear jewelry. She would decorate her outfits by wearing her dangling earrings and rings. Geraldine was concerned about community issues. She was well-versed in politics and often spoke her mind about the injustices in the world. Her unwavering faith in God, deep love for her family, and ability to inspire others will remain her lasting legacy. Geraldine leaves behind a host of family and friends that will continue to cherish her memory. Geraldine is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Elroy Scurlock and her loving parents. She is survived by her children, Gary, Katrina, Nathaniel (Vallant) and Segreol (Avil), Grandchildren: Cherise, Cierra (James), Christopher, Kendra, Sommer (Jonathan) Nakea (Michael )Tay (Carlos), Emani, Raffina, Adonis, Great Grandchildren: Khyla, Krissy, Kamille, Jonathan Jr., Cameron, Cayden, Niyla, Jacobi, Jacari, Nasir, James III, Kashmir, Archer, Noble Great Great Grandchild: Enzo Niece: Alice, Nephews: Ocsears (Ellarwece), Keith, (Monica) Norman (Denise), Stevie (Yvette).
