Harriet Jean Carter

Harriet Jean Carter was born in Lexington Mississippi on April 25, 1942, to her loving parents Pearlie Mae Carter (Mime) and John Montgomery (Pops) Harriet, was raised in Lexington Mississippi, with her maternal Grandmother Lillie B Carter, along with her Brother James Otis (Black Baby) Willie (Bro), Sonny, Nehamas (Duck) and Vivian (Vip), they then moved to Memphis Tennessee before moving North to Chicago and Waukegan Illinois with Parents, Harriett attended Wendall Phillips High School (Chicago), later attending College. Harriet was employed by the Chicago Board of Education for 35yrs working at Calumet High School 25yrs, Chicago Vocational High School (CVS) 5yrs, and Simeon Vocational High School 2yrs, retiring from Nathanial Green Elementary School, becoming a volunteer teacher at St. Thomas More Elementary School, where she was greatly appreciated. Harriet confessed her life to Christ in 1957 by joining the Paradise M.B Church under the leadership of her uncle Rev. Homer Carter where she was baptized at the age of 14 in Lake Michigan, she then joined the Choir, then joining the Usher Board where she served for 20 plus years, In 1995 Harriet changed her membership joining Chicagoland Christian Center World Outreach Ministry under the leadership of the Late Marshall Davis, until her health began to fail. Harriet joined The Order of Eastern Stars in 1975 at the age of 33 she served in the position of Associate Grand Matron for 16yrs with over 40 years of service In (Star in the East Chapter #7) along with her daughters Lolita. Harriet was known by all for being talkative, funny, quick wit, and she loved to laugh out loud, and dance (stepping), singing old songs, while making up her own words, she also loved doing puzzle books in her quiet times, also taking care of EVERYBODY!!! She was so many other people Mother, Grandma, Dear, Sweets, Mama Girl and she wore each name with pride Harriet placed her hands in Gods hand on Wednesday January 21, 2026, at 8:00pm surrounded by her loving Family. Harriet was preceded in death by her Parents Pearlie & John, her Brother James Otis, Sonny, Nehamas, and her sisters Lavern and Vivian, her daughter Angela Denise. Harriet leaves to cherish all her memories, her loving daughters Regina Carter, Yolanda Merkson (Larry), Lolita Carter, Karen Morrow (Darry) California, Susie Jones, Sons Roy Bailey, Leonard Bailey, Fourteen grandchildren, Latoshi King (Reno Nevada) She ‘Meka King, Antonio Carter, Erica Shaw (Albert), Jacksonville Florida, Warren Carter, Denina Steed, Ebony Carter, Nicholas Barber, Darius Carter (Stevie)California, Deon Carter, Demetrius Carter (Columbus Ohio), Elijah Carter, Gabrielle Goings, Katara Hull. Twenty-three Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Granddaughter, God Sons Jordyn Foster, Justyn Foster, Jaden Foster, Alonzo Foster, Goddaughters Zeidre Foster, Tywanda (Pinky) Thorps, Bonus daughters Tara Morrow, Tiesha Morrow, Fania Morrow, Brandi Morrow, . Her loving sister Juanita Collins(Prince) Chicago, loving brother Willie (Bro) Carter (Hattie)Waukegan Il, Four Nephews Corey Williams and Stephen Carter and Reggie Carter, Chris Carter(Waukegan) Four Nieces, Sherri Lynn Todd, Sara Lisa Hill (Mark) , Shelia Todd all of Atlanta Georgia, Mae Hicks Jones (Aurora) her loving companion Mr. Roosevelt Williams, her two lifelong friends Louise Banks Johnson, Scarlett Coleman Dell, and a Host of extra Children, Grandchildren Family and Friends and Neighbors.
